Take Precautions When Humidex is High

first_imgThe Department of Health is reminding Nova Scotians to take some precautions today, July 20, and on days when the humidex is expected to exceed 35 C, increasing the risk of heat stress. The humidex measures how hot the temperature feels to the average person. It combines the temperature and humidity into one number, taking into account the two most important factors that affect summer comfort. There is a potential for those most at risk to become ill as a result of high heat and humidity. People who are at most risk are infants, preschoolers, adults aged 65 or older and people with chronic conditions such as lung or heart problems. For important heat-safety tips, see the fact sheet on the Department of Health website at www.gov.ns.ca/health/ocmoh . -30-last_img read more
