COUNTDOWN TO CROKER: CASSIDY BLASTS MCGUINNESS FOR ‘SILLY’ COMMENTS ABOUT DUBLIN

first_imgKevin Cassidy has said the comments Jim McGuinness made about Dublin last week were ‘silly’ and ‘unnecessary’.Former Donegal player Kevin Cassidy has blasted Jim McGuinness for making ‘silly’ comments about Dublin in the run-up to Sunday’s crunch All-Ireland semi-final between the two counties.McGuinness compared the strength of resources available to Dublin as similar to those Roman Ambramovich has at his disposal at Chelsea, and said there was a divide beginning to develop between Dublin and the rest of the counties.Cassidy and McGuinness had a very public fall-out, the Gaoth Dobhair manager was removed from the Donegal panel prior to the 2012 All-Ireland winning campaign for contributions he made to the award winning book ‘This Is Our Year’ by Declan Bogue. However, Cassidy feels the latest comments made by McGuinness are both ‘silly’ and ‘unnecessary’Cassidy told The Irish Times, “To be honest I think it was a silly comment, he has given out to Mark McHugh and Eamon McGee in the past for making silly comments.“I don’t know if it is pressure or if Jim is trying to direct stuff away or whatever, but Dublin didn’t need any more ammunition because there is enough there already.“I know some things can be taken out of context, and maybe that’s what happened, but there is no need for it. “Dublin deserve credit they don’t deserve it to be said they’re successful because of money.Cassidy alluded to the fact that Donegal went on a warm weather training camp in Portugal earlier this season, and have just returned from a five-day training camp at Johnstown House, Enfield.“To be honest there is a lot of money in our county as well. Maybe for Jim to say that wasn’t right, but I’m sure he realises that now.Cassidy also feels Dublin may have too many big guns on the day and says it’s hard to see past a Dublin victory, but believes Donegal have a chance.“It’s tough to see outside Dublin, to be honest. I think Donegal have a chance but I’m not going to sit here and say Donegal have better players than Dublin because they don’t. But every team is due an off day. “Donegal have a chance.COUNTDOWN TO CROKER: CASSIDY BLASTS MCGUINNESS FOR ‘SILLY’ COMMENTS ABOUT DUBLIN was last modified: August 26th, 2014 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:CommentsCountdown to CrokerKevin CassidynewssillySportunecessarylast_img read more
