England to play friendly against Italy in 2015

first_img1 Daniele De Rossi of Italy fights off Wayne Rooney of England during the 2014 FIFA World Cup England will travel to Italy for a friendly against the Azzurri in 2015, the Football Association have announced.The clash, on March 31 at a venue yet to be confirmed, will be the 26th meeting between the two sides.Italy have won ten of the previous encounters to England’s eight and were victorious the last time the teams met at the 2014 World Cup.Having been paired together in Group D, Italy snatched a 2-1 win against Roy Hodgson’s side in Manaus, with Mario Balotelli netting the decisive goal.“Italy have always provided stern opposition for England and these two fixtures will be no different,” said Hodgson.“Italian teams are always set up very well and they have a great history of producing world class footballers. It will give us great preparation leading into major international tournaments.“After managing in Italy with Inter Milan, it will be a fantastic experience for me personally to go back to Italy and manage England.”The game will take place four days after England host Lithuania in a 2016 European Championship qualifier.A reverse friendly between the teams will also be taking place at Wembley on a date to be confirmed in the 2016-18 FIFA World Cup qualification cycle.last_img read more
