Experts call for proper DNA testing in sexual assault cases

first_imgNew Delhi: Experts on Wednesday called for a country-wide implementation of one-stop sexual assault examination, care, and research centres enabled with state-of-the-art DNA collection and testing facilities. In a symposium on the “Role of Forensic DNA Technology in Expediting Justice and Fighting Crime”, Sudhir K Gupta, the head of the Forensic Medicine department at AIIMS in New Delhi said that the lack of proper facilities at hospitals has a direct correlation with the quality of DNA evidence collected. Director of Delhi Forensic Sciences Laboratories, Deepa Verma, who was also on panel said that proper preservation of DNA evidence is crucial. Former LTTE members release polls manifesto

Former LTTE members contesting the Parliament election released their election manifesto in Jaffna today.In their manifesto, the Crusaders For Democracy called for a political solution to the Tamil issue based on the Indo-Lanka peace accord and the Oslo peace declaration reached between the LTTE and the Government. The manifesto also notes that if the Government fails to address the issues faced by the Tamils then the Crusaders For Democracy will continue to push for a solution even after the August 17 election.
