He carries a bit more experience than Aaron but they’ve helped a lot,” Jones told Inside United.“Aaron’s up and down [the pitch], his tackling’s probably some of the best I’ve seen, and no one wants to go past him. You see players now stopping, turning around and going the other way, so that’s a credit to him.“Harry’s got the international experience. He’s a big, strong defender who has helped us and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition going forward.” last_img read more

In this match, we had a lot of corners in the first half, but in the second half we had less. When we are taking that corner, we can score. We did that today and It’s important for us to have confidence with different players scoring.”He’s very positive. Every time he’s speaking about positive things and helping young players. He came late into the squad but really, his commitment is very high with us, and his behaviour is too. Ohio State LB Darron Lee Doesn’t Understand Why Michigan Brags About Its Success In The 90s

first_imgDarron Lee tweets message bashing the Michigan 1990's teams.Darron Lee Michigan DissIt’s been a while since Michigan’s football program was truly elite. Since the 1990s, probably. Two decades ago, the Wolverines won a national championship (1997), five Big Ten championships and had a winning record (7-2) against rival Ohio State. Since then, they’ve had a couple really good seasons, but success on a national level (and against the Buckeyes) has been inconsistent at best. Ohio State sophomore linebacker Darron Lee doesn’t understand why the Wolverines think they can brag about what happened 20-something years ago. Never knew why the TTUN always talked about the 90’s like anyone remembers…or cared but hey gotta cling to something right?— Darron Lee (@DLeeMG8) May 19, 2015Michigan’s game against Ohio State – the first Jim Harbaugh vs. Urban Meyer meeting – is set to occur on Nov. 28. We can’t wait for it.last_img read more

Federer ready for Isner shootout for Miami crown

first_imgMiami: Roger Federer is gearing up for a Miami Open final shootout with John Isner on Sunday after blowing away young-gun Denis Shapovalov in straight sets. Federer produced a 6-2, 6-4 masterclass at Hard Rock Stadium to leave up-and-coming star Shapovalov, who grew up idolizing the Swiss, chasing shadows during a difficult first set. The Swiss was superb in dismantling the 19 year-old’s game, but knows with huge serving Isner lying in wait in what will be the former world number one’s 50th ATP Masters final, the key will be to defuse the reigning Miami Open champion’s monster service game. Also Read – Puducherry on top after 8-wkt win over Chandigarh Isner used it to great effect in his 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/4) win over Shapovalov’s friend and compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime earlier in the day, smashing down 21 aces. He’ll be looking for more of the same against 20 time Grand Slam champion Federer. “Playing a big server like John is like being in a penalty shootout in soccer, but I enjoy it,” said number four seed Federer who coped brilliantly with Kevin Anderson’s dangerous serve in the quarter-finals, winning the first set to love. Also Read – Vijender’s next fight on Nov 22, opponent to be announced later “Sometimes you go with momentum. Sometimes you go with feel. Sometimes you guess maybe a little bit and sometimes you see it. It’s a combination of all sort of things. “You just hope that the stars align, that you pick the right side, that he picks the wrong side, that maybe he misses a serve, that you can put him in uncomfortable situations time and time again, and at the end somehow you find a way.” Federer had no such challenge from Shapovalov, playing his fifth ATP Tour semi-final. Even though the Swiss was standing in his way of a first final, the 19 year-old stressed beforehand that it was a “dream” to take on Federer. It quickly, however, turned into a nightmare. The Canadian displayed understandable nerves early on, a struggle with his first serve proving as much in a 10 minute opening game which he eventually won. Yet it didn’t settle him down and when another horribly loose backhand flew long, Federer pocketed a vital early break and stayed in the driver’s seat. Shapovalov, who will jump to a career best 20th in the world thanks to this impressive run, enjoyed some much better moments in the second set and looked more relaxed, although the match was never in his hands. He hit just eight winners in response to Federer’s 30 but will learn from this. “It’s kind of surreal, being on the court against Roger,”admitted the Canadian who joked the only enjoyable moment for him was the warm up. “Obviously I wasn’t trying to focus on the fact that it’s him on the other side. “I was just trying to play as good as I can, but he played an excellent match. I wasn’t able stay at his level. I’m just going to try to learn from this and move forward.” Federer, assessing his own performance, said he played “very well”. “I had to because when you let Denis play, he’s got some serious power and he gets rhythm going. He can really put you in uncomfortable situations.” This was the first time since 2007 that two teenagers have reached an ATP Masters semi-finals and although both suffered disappointing defeats, they leave South Florida with their heads held high. Auger-Aliassime’s dream run finished with the youngster from Montreal competing confidently in the biggest match of his career even if he will rue the chances that escaped him after being broken while serving for the first and second set. “Unusual,” Isner called it. “It could have been a little bit of inexperience and maybe a little bit of fatigue, also.” Despite the disappointment etched all over Auger-Aliassime’s face at the end, his run here will give him great confidence moving forward as he, and Shapovalov, aim to prove their Grand Slam credentials. The 18-year-old is the youngest-ever male semi-finalist in Miami and only the second qualifier to reach the last four after Guillermo Canas reached the same stage in 2007 before losing to Novak Djokovic in the final. Auger-Aliassime will also see his ranking jump from 55 to 33 in the world. “I think I did the best that I could,” he said. “It’s a chance you can’t miss, serving two times for the set, and just — I don’t know. It’s just terrible. The biggest lesson I learned was to stay in the present and believe in yourself.”last_img read more

The presidents of the two main political parties are in the fray in the third phase with BJP chief Amit Shah making his Lok Sabha election debut from Gandhinagar and Congress President Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad. In Karnataka, the BJP is considered to have a firm footing in many of the 14 seats going to the polls on Tuesday. However, the saffron party faces a tough challenge from the Congress-JDS combine. The BJP faces a stiff challenge in UP, as the third phase of LS elections will be fought in the “Yadav belt”. Janata Dal (United), the BJP’s ally in the NDA, is contesting three seats while the LJP is contesting one seat. In Odisha, the third phase of elections will witness a battle between several political heavyweights as well as former bureaucrats. In the four constituencies of lower Assam that will go to the polls on Tuesday, both the Congress and the AIUDF are seeking to gain votes by targeting the BJP over its stance in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The Congress will look to augment its tally in Kerala with Rahul Gandhi in the fray from Wayanad. The BJP too is seeing a realistic chance to win four seats in the southern state. The high-octane Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal reach an exciting third leg on Tuesday. Five constituencies – Balurghat, Malda North, Malda South, Jangipur and Murshidabad – are up for grabs in the third phase.last_img read more

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been on a tear — 43 wins in 50 games since June 9, the best 50-game stretch in MLB history — and they now stand at 79-32, which puts the team in a position to win more games than the 2001 Seattle Mariners and 1906 Chicago Cubs, who each won 116 games, the most ever by a baseball team in a season.According to FiveThirtyEight’s Elo model, which simulates the remainder of the season using power ratings and each team’s probability of winning every game, the Dodgers are on pace to win 112 games. But that’s just their average outcome — in some simulations they win more, and in some they win less. In a shade over 20 percent of our simulations, they win at least 116 games, which would tie the all-time mark. FIFA plan changes to international loan system

first_imgFIFA are planning changes to the international transfer system that sees players to leave and join other clubs on loan. The changes are expected to limit the number of player loans by clubs and also handle agents’ fees. FIFA are reportedly planning to reduce the number of players a club can loan out each season to between six and eight. The aim of these changes are to stop clubs, especially in England and Italy signing a large number of players and loaning them out immediately.Chelsea currently have around 40 players on their books who are out on loan while Italian champions Juventus also have 25 players away from the club on loan.FIFA are also proposing to create a clearinghouse, managed by a bank, to handle solidarity payments from transfer fees due to clubs that trained players in their own academy. This proposed clearinghouse would also be responsible for handling payments to agents.Premier LeaguePremier League Betting: Match-day 5 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Going into the Premier League’s match-day five with a gap already beginning to form at the top of the league. NewFronts West Showcases Podcasts Influencer Marketing in Inaugural LA Event

first_imgThe kick-off day of the first-ever Digital Content NewFronts West conference in Hollywood highlighted two trends: the expansion of digital media forms like podcasting, as well as creative approaches to advertising, especially influencer marketing.Anna Bager, the executive VP of industry initiative at IAB, which manages the event, said the L.A. iteration was designed to be different from its New York counterpart in focusing on branded and sponsored content, as well as content creators. NewFronts West runs Oct. 9-10.The Los Angeles Times on Tuesday announced that following the success of its narrative podcast “Dirty John,” the company will roll out similar formats through 2019 with additional podcasts. They include “Big Willie,” about drag racer and local legend Big Willie Robinson, and “Room 20,” which follows an investigative reporter’s search to uncover a hospital patient’s identity. ×Actors Reveal Their Favorite Disney PrincessesSeveral actors, like Daisy Ridley, Awkwafina, Jeff Goldblum and Gina Rodriguez, reveal their favorite Disney princesses. Rapunzel, Mulan, Ariel,Tiana, Sleeping Beauty and Jasmine all got some love from the Disney stars.More VideosVolume 0%Press shift question mark to access a list of keyboard shortcutsKeyboard Shortcutsplay/pauseincrease volumedecrease volumeseek forwardsseek backwardstoggle captionstoggle fullscreenmute/unmuteseek to %SPACE↑↓→←cfm0-9Next UpJennifer Lopez Shares How She Became a Mogul04:350.5x1x1.25×1.5x2xLive00:0002:1502:15 Gallery Media Group, the company behind PureWow and ONE37pm, announced three upcoming podcasts: “Long Story Short,” which will have makeup industry veteran and entrepreneur Bobbi Brown interviewing guests like Connie Britton and Cindy Crawford about their journey to success; “Mom Brain,” hosted by Daphne Oz and Hilaria Baldwin, the wife of Alec Baldwin, will discuss aspects of motherhood with guests like Alyssa Milano and Sheryl Crow; and “Respect Replay,” a joint collaboration between ONE37pm and Fanatics that will bring together athletes from different eras or leagues.Mary Kate McGrath, Gallery’s chief content officer and the editor in chief of PureWow, said podcasts’ popularity have skyrocketed recently, thanks to Apple’s bevy of selections and the acclaimed podcast “Serial.” Now, one in four Americans listens to podcasts, and almost half of those people listen to up to 10 hours a week, McGrath said, which presents new opportunities for brands to acquire users and embed ads within episodes.“Thanks to the mobility of the medium, and the amazing stories across categories, people are listening more than ever,” McGrath said. “We launched Gallery Podcast Co. because we saw attention shifting dramatically to the audio space and we saw an opportunity to connect our clients to an intimate way to connect to consumers.”Gallery also touched on its new hero video platform, which bypasses traditional ads by creating content around advertising, rather than the opposite. The company has had success with longer videos from PureWow or ONE37pm’s handle that craft a plot around a brand, such as its recent musical short that promoted Olay, called “I Can’t Wait to Wash My Face.”Both Gallery and FameBit by YouTube focused on new strategies in influencer marketing. Beau Avril, the global head of business operations at FameBit, said the company has developed tools like a measurement to track brand interest lift and find if searches for a brand term increases after influencers mention it in a video.Avril said audiences are more skeptical than ever about traditional advertising and 92 percent of consumers trust product recommendations more when coming from their peers on social media, like social influencers. He says FameBit has been working with influencers to naturally implement a brand’s products in their videos, whether through the “get ready with me” format or cooking segments. YouTuber Freddie Wong, who has worked with brands through FameBit, said brands must offer something that complements and elevates his storytelling, as a straightford promotional video would result in viewers labelling him a “sell-out.” Wong cited successful collaborations with the likes of Dodge Dart for a video about racing and the thriller film “Mile 22” for an action short about his quest to get tickets to the film’s premiere.“In a world where we’re lacking that authenticity but also that relevance and that relatability, the epicenter of that happens on these channels, in that content,” Avril said. “Because these moments are so special and they’re so pointed, as a brand being in those conversations really gives you a chance to shape opinions and even drive decisions.”Some 20 companies are presenting at the IAB’s NewFronts West conference at NeueHouse in Hollywood. Xray burst spotted in the galactic bulge

first_img Explore further (Phys.org)—Using the JEM-X telescope onboard the INTEGRAL space observatory, astronomers have discovered a new X-ray burst in the galactic bulge. The X-ray burst was detected from the faint unidentified transient source know as IGR J17445-2747. The discovery is reported in a paper published Sept. 8 on arXiv.org. First detected in 2003 by the IBIS/ISGRI gamma-ray telescope, IGR J17445-2747 was initially classified as a faint, unidentified persistent source. Subsequent observations of this source were conducted with the aim of detecting any outbursts that could be helpful in determining its nature. However, no such outbursts were discovered to date. This situation changed in April 2017 when a team of Russian astronomers from the Space Research Institute in Moscow spotted a type I X-ray burst from IGR J17445-2747. The group, led by Ilya Mereminskiy, discovered the burst by analyzing the data obtained during scanning observations of the galactic center region with the Joint European X-ray Monitor (JEM-X) telescope onboard ESA’s INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) space mission. “We reported the detection of a type I X-ray burst from the poorly studied transient X-ray source IGR J17445-2747 in the galactic bulge,” the researchers wrote in the paper.X-ray bursts are among the most energetic events observed in the universe. They are believed to be thermonuclear explosions occurring near the surface of accreting neutron stars. Such events occur in low-mass X-ray binary systems where a neutron star and low-mass main sequence star are in orbit around one another.Astronomers divide X-ray bursts into two categories: type I and type II. Type I bursts have a sharp rise followed by a slow and gradual decline of the luminosity profile, while type II bursts are characterized by a quick pulse shape, and may have many fast bursts separated by minutes. First X-ray burst was discovered in 1975 and so far, almost all of the detected X-ray bursts were found to be of type I.New observations from the JEM-X instrument show that IGR J17445-2747 is another source exhibiting type I X-ray bursts. The newly detected burst has a shape typical for type I bursts, including a fast rise shorter than five seconds and a much slower decay lasting about 15 seconds. The findings indicate that IGR J17445-2747 is an accreting neutron star with a weak magnetic field in a low-mass X-ray binary.”Such bursts are a sign of a thermonuclear explosion of accreted matter on the surface of a neutron star with a weak magnetic field in a low-mass X-ray binary. This is also confirmed by the almost blackbody spectrum detected during the burst,” the paper reads.Furthermore, few days after the discovery of the burst from IGR J17445-2747, the source was observed with the X-Ray Telescope (XRT) onboard NASA’s Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Mission in order to estimate its accurate position. These observations allowed the researchers to determine that IGR J17445-2747 is most likely located in the galactic bulge, between 16,300 and 40,000 light years away from the Earth.
