Duterte: Water firms liable for graft, plunder

first_imgPresident Duterte made the statement as the Department of Justice announced that it is working to revise the concession agreements with Maynilad and Manila Water after they found several “onerous” provisions in the deals. MANILA – President Rodrigo Dutertewanted to talk with the people behind the controversial 1997 water concessionagreements as he insisted on not paying the Maynilad and Manila Water. “Hindi ito maareglo hangga’t hindi ko makausap ‘yung mga (water) concessionaire,” says President Rodrigo Duterte. PCOO The President also claimed that the water companies have cheated the public of trillions of pesos for passing corporate income tax payments to the consumers and for their failure to establish wastewater treatment facilities “Kaya sabi ko, paano mo aregluhin ‘yan ngayon? They say na, “aregluhin natin.” How? How will I compromise? It’s plunder. That is the classic economic plunder. How can now I tell the people as President: Adre, p***, aregluhin na lang natin ‘to. Tell me. Tell me those f****… Tell me kung papaano ko sabihin sa tao?” he added.center_img “Trillion ‘to, sobra. The fact alone that all these years we were paying a fee para sa water treatment but it’s never came into being all these years. Then corporate income tax was passed on to the Filipino people,” Duterte said. “Kayagusto ko silang makausap. Hindi itomaareglo hangga’t hindi ko makausap ‘yungmga concessionaires,” the President said in a speech at the Malacañang onMonday evening. The President last week threatened to pursue economic sabotage charges against the water distributors as he claimed that Filipinos were being “milked by billions.”/PNlast_img read more

Tony Pulis: I recommended Mikel for Stoke

first_imgTony Pulis gave Michael O’Neill a reference for new Stoke City signing John Obi Mikel.Mikel arrives in the Potteries as O’Neill’s fourth summer signing, having played half-a-season under Pulis at play-off chasing Middlesbrough in 2018/19. The 33-year-old – a free agent after leaving Trabzonspor in March – was a wanted man around Europe and had a lucrative offer on the table from Russia. But he had a four-hour chat with O’Neill convincing each other that they were the right fit.O’Neill told TalkSPORT: “We didn’t feel that possibly we would be in a position to get him but having met the lad – he spent a day up here with us in Stoke – he liked what he saw and we liked what we saw in him in terms of what his vision was.“And when you’ve got a player that has had the career at the level that John has had you are always a little bit worried about them coming to a team in the Championship.“But we did a lot of due diligence on him, got references from people like Tony Pulis who he played under at Middlesbrough and other people that he’s worked under. “But the most important thing was that John was really keen to come. He wants to try to finish his career in the Premier League having obviously been in China and having been abroad again in Turkey and hopefully he can do that with Stoke City.”Pulis signed Mikel on a short-term deal in January 2019 and it was quite clear he was a big fan.He said at the time: “He has the quality, the stature, the experience, people around will grow. People grow around because of his personality. He played against my teams quite a few times. He was always one that stood out.“I think he’s a player’s player, I’m not so sure supporters will ever appreciate what John does as much as his co-players, he’s that type of player.”Mikel made 18 appearances and Pulis added: “John is one of those rocks, a building block that you lay the foundations on. “I’m not surprised about the impact he has had. I spoke to a lot of people before I spoke to John.“When you have been out of the country for two years and haven’t played competitive football – no disrespect to the Chinese League – then there is always some doubts but everyone I spoke to said he was a wonderful person, very grounded, very down to earth.“That’s the big issue with players: it is character, character, character. And John has that in his locker.“People here will be able to say better than me whether there have been players over the years who have turned up just to take the coin.RelatedPosts Stoke City manager salutes Mikel Mikel opens Stoke City goal account Mikel: I want to instil winning mentality at Stoke “John is not going to do that. He isn’t about the money. He just seem to be enjoying it. I was 100 per cent it was the right move.“It was difficult to convince everyone it was right because we have so many midfield players and I am not sure what the supporters thought of us bringing another one in, but he was never going to be a gamble for me. He was always going to help us.”Tags: MiddlesbroughMikelStoke CityTony Pulislast_img read more

ANGER AS ANOTHER GIRL TAUNTED TO DEATH BY TROLLS ON ASK.FM

first_imgPEOPLE in Britain have reacted with anger to the suicide of a teenage girl who was bullied on the website ask.fm – the same site where Donegal girl Erin Gallagher was harassed.Leitrim schoolgirl Ciara Pugsley also took her own life after being harassed on the site, which is often accessed via Facebook.Lancashire girl Hannah Smith took her own life last Friday. Her father David urged parents to stop their children using the Latvian-based Ask.fm.  Mr Smith called for its creators to be prosecuted for manslaughter.Less than a fortnight before her body was found early last Friday, Hannah begged her tormentors – who can hide behind a cloak of anonymity on the site – to stop the abuse. In another post, she told one bully who had branded her an “ugly f*****” how she had already attempted suicide and added: “Getting things like this from people that like to hide behind there (sic) computer screen doesn’t make me feel any better.”Her dad said at the weekend: “I have just seen the abuse my daughter got from people on ask fm and the fact that these people can be anonymous is wrong. The person that created this website should be done for manslaughter.” In her final days, Hannah had been branded a “cow” and “fat sl**”.On July 20, a troll wrote, “* ugly f*** go die evry1 wuld be happy”, prompting Hannah to reply: “yes, i may be ugly, but you obviously have an ugly personality to tell people to ‘go die’!”Other hurtful posts urged her to “do us all a favour * kill ur self” and “go comit suicide”. Hannah replied: “wouldn’t you fell bad if I did ey?” Just the day before she apparently killed herself, Hannah posted a picture message on Facebook which read: “You think you want to die, but in reality you just want to be saved.” ANGER AS ANOTHER GIRL TAUNTED TO DEATH BY TROLLS ON ASK.FM was last modified: August 6th, 2013 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:BallybofeydonegalErin GallagherHANNAH SMITHtrollslast_img read more
