LEICESTER VS CHELSEA

first_imgLEICESTER (4-4-2)SCHMEICHEL,SIMPSON, MORGAN, HUTH, FUCHS,MAHREZ, DRINKWATER, KANTE, ALBRIGHTON,ULLOA, VARDYCHELSEA (4-2-3-1)COSTA,PEDRO, OSCAR, WILLIAN,MATIC, FABREGAS,BABA, TERRY, CAHILL, IVANOVIC,COURTOISChelsea, after such a poor league season, confirmed their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Portuguese club Porto on Wednesday. It should give them a boost ahead of a difficult game on Monday.Remarkably, Leicester City face reigning champions Chelsea at the top of the table. The Foxes have 32 points – 17 more than the Blues, who are languishing in 14th place and just two points clear of the relegation zone. And at this stage of last season Chelsea were top – and Leicester were bottom. After 15 games of the 2014-15 campaign the Blues had 36 points, 21 more than they have now. By contrast, Leicester had 10 points, 22 fewer than they have now.Leicester are finding the net with ease; they have now scored three goals in each of their last three away games.Their latest success came at Swansea City last weekend when, for once, Jamie Vardy failed to score. He remains the Premier League’s leading scorer, with 14. But teammate Riyad Mahrez took over the limelight with a hat-trick in Wales. That was the ninth hat-trick of the season, just one short of last season’s total over the season.last_img read more

Kepa Arrizabalaga: How did Chelsea’s new ‘keeper fare in his opening game?

first_img 4 Shot-stoppingKepa did not make a save of note on his debut. Maurizio Sarri’s side controlled possession from the outset in West Yorkshire, where it took 20 minutes for Alex Pritchard to muster a shot on target – an attempt that was straight down the barrel and comfortably stopped. It was Huddersfield’s only shot on target in the opening period, but Kepa was relieved to see a Steve Mounie header bounce off the post and eventually get cleared from danger. That was the biggest threat to Chelsea’s goal, with the Spain international comfortably dealing with headers from Philip Billing and Laurent Depoitre later on.DistributionAt a time when there is an increasing need for goalkeepers to be capable footballers as well as shot-stoppers, Kepa looked composed on the ball, but proved inaccurate with a number of his long passes. “How much?” screamed a Huddersfield fan when Kepa slashed a sixth-minute clearance, while his preference for a clipped ball to the hallway line was regularly cut out. Clearly capable on the ball, Kepa will need to work out what passes work best in English football.PresenceQuick off his line when Mounie attempted to latch onto a through-ball early on, Huddersfield surprisingly did not use their physicality to put the new Chelsea goalkeeper under pressure. Balls tended to go away from Kepa than towards him, meaning he did not have to dominate the box and so much as claim a cross until the stroke of half-time.OverallThe trip to the John Smith’s Stadium could well have been a baptism of fire given his inexperience and Huddersfield’s strength in the air. Yet Town were unable to turn promising moments into genuine threats and failed to give Kepa anything to worry about. It was as comfortable a debut as he could have wished for. N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Pedro goals sealed a 3-0 triumph. Kepa Arrizabalaga made his Chelsea debut in the Blues’ 3-0 win at Huddersfield, just days after becoming the most expensive goalkeeper in history. The Spaniard signed a seven-year deal after completing his world-record £72m move from Athletic Bilbao as the Blues replaced Thibaut Courtois, who left for Real Madrid. He kept a clean sheet and had a straightforward opening performance, although tougher tests will await him as the season progresses.center_img Read below to find out how Arrizabalaga got on in Chelsea’s 3-0 win. last_img read more

Clarity on Jacob Zuma’s wives

first_img7 January 2010South African President Jacob Zuma, who practises polygamy in keeping with traditional African culture, has not five but three wives, any of whom may accompany him on official engagements. In a statement aimed at correcting media reports following Zuma’s wedding to Tobeka Madiba-Zuma on the weekend, the Presidency said that South Africa’s Constitution and public service regulations did not make provision for a First Lady or First Ladies, and that there was thus “no such official designation”.Contrary to media reports, Zuma has not five but three wives: Sizakele Khumalo, Nompumelelo Ntuli, and Tobeka Madiba. He also has a fiancee, Bongi Ngema. When it comes to official or public engagements, the Presidency said, it is up to Zuma to decide whether he is accompanied by any or all of his wives. “This is his prerogative, and has been the practice since he took office.”The Presidency said it provided “administrative support” to the President’s wives through its spousal office, “as has been the practice in past administrations”.While Zuma’s wives might take part in community work or other activities that supported the President’s work, this was purely voluntary, as they were not part of the Presidency or the public service.MaKhumalo (in isiZulu culture, married or adult women have the prefix “Ma” added to their surnames), whose area of interest is agriculture and food security, runs a vegetable garden project in Zuma’s home village of Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal.KaMadiba (the prefix “Ka” is used for names already beginning with “Ma”) is interested in health care, especially work relating to the fight against cervical cancer. MaNtuli’s focus is on social development; she works to help orphans and vulnerable children.SAinfo reporterWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Snake scare at Games Village after dog menace

first_imgThe Commonwealth Games organisers continued to wallow in criticism as stray dogs, last-minute work and the discovery of a snake in one of the apartments in the Village on Sunday drew howls of protests from the visiting teams. Some 60 members of the Scotland team and a 50-strong Welsh contingent finally moved into the Village, but expressed displeasure at the unfinished facilities.Scotland’s chef de mission Jon Doig, who had arrived last week, said: “We arrived here earlier otherwise our athletes would have had a tough time in the Village. We could identify the problems at the right time. But there are still things that need to be fixed,” he said.Another team official said stray dogs continue to pose a danger. “This is very strange for us and it poses a threat for the athletes as well,” the official said.A top South African diplomat warned his country’s athletes would not put up in the Village after a snake was discovered in one of the rooms reserved for them.South African high commissioner Harris Mbulelo Mejeke said the athletes wouldn’t stay in the Village until everything was in place. ” A snake can be a threat to the lives of our athletes. Very disappointing.Basically, the basement was full of water and the staircase was damp. If snakes are found, we can’t ask our athletes to stay,” Mejeke said.Botswana complained about lack of cleanliness in the apartments. “There is a lot of construction material lying in our rooms. Besides filthy bedsheets, bathroom fittings do not work. They are not clean. It is unlivable,” chef de mission of Botswana, Tuelo Daniel Seruftho, said.advertisement”We are coordinating with the Games Organising Committee officials and efforts are on to put things in order,” he added. “Our athletes will be here by Tuesday. They will stay here only if the rooms are ready. Otherwise, we will arrange accommodation in hotels.”Trinidad and Tobago officials praised the facilities, but said their team would stay in hotels for the time being as finishing work remained. ” The facilities are excellent, but there is still work to do.This is similar to a big Indian wedding. But what bothers us are the mosquitoes. There is a fear of dengue,” said John Melow, a team official.last_img read more

TTLine FSG Seal Deal on RoRo Duo

first_imgzoomImage Courtes:; FSG After four months of negotiations, Australian TT-Line Company Pty has firmed up its shipbuilding deal with German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) for the construction of two new Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) ships. The duo signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) back in January, which was followed by talks on the final vessel design specifications.TT-Line will be paying EUR 219 million (USD 262 million) per vessel.Once delivered in 2021, the two RoRos will replace the current Spirit of Tasmania vessels on the Bass Strait.“In preparing a business case for the Tasmanian Government, TT-Line Company Pty Ltd exhaustively assessed vessel types and fleet configurations to determine the most suitable vessels to operate daily crossings on Bass Strait,” TT-Line chairman Mike Grainger said.Grainger added that the final design specifications provided for 212 metre long vessels that will accommodate 1,800 passengers and up to 600 passenger vehicles.“The new purpose-built vessels will also be able to carry increased freight volumes when compared to the current Spirit of Tasmania vessels,” he said.FSG was endorsed by the TT-Line Board after the company shortlisted a number of international shipyards to build the new vessels. It is currently building Cruise Ferries for Irish Ferries and Brittany Ferries which are very similar in design to the new Spirits. FSG has also recently designed and built RoPax ferries for Canadian BC Ferries and Scottish Caledonian MacBrayne.last_img read more
