first_imgGoogle will launch its new Pixel phones — Pixel XL and Pixel — on October 4. But the case makers aren’t waiting for the official announcement. They have already started selling the cases for the new Pixel phones, which will replace the Nexus phones from year 2016 onwards, on Amazon and other e-commerce sites. And in the process, they have revealed the designs of both the Pixel and the Pixel XL.The two phones look identical and very similar to their renders and blurry images that have leaked although. Both the phones sport now familiar iPhone 6, or for that matter the HTC One A9, like design, complete with aluminium bodies and overly rounded edges. They also seem to have the slightly tapered edges that make them look a bit more premium and slicker compared to some other phones that have similar design. It’s a design that we suspect some users will love while some others will hate. Some buyers will like the fact that the Pixel phones look so similar to the iPhone or the HTC 10. But some will say that this is a dated design, with thick bezels that don’t belong to a phone releasing in 2016.Although, overall similar to many other phones in the market, the Pixel XL and the Pixel do have some unique design elements. Both phones have a layer of glass on the top portion of their back cover and both, just like the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P, have a fingerprint scanner on their back.Apart from the size, the phones seem to sport exactly the same design. These phones are made by HTC and it is easy to see that they have been modeled on the One A9, a phone that HTC launched last year.advertisementThe two Pixel phones — currently codenamed Marlin and Sailfish — are likely to come with Qualcomm’s latest (and most powerful) Snapdragon 820 processor. They are likely to have 32GB internal storage, 3GB RAM and the same — or very similar — 12-megapixel camera that is inside the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P. They will also run Google’s almost unmodified Android Nougat 7.1 operating system. The pixel will have a 5-inch screen while the Pixel XL will sport a 5.5-inch display. This year, Google is killing the Nexus phones programme and replacing it Pixel programme. The company’s Pixel phones, unlike the Nexus phones that were niche devices meant for developers and were sold at lower margins, will compete with the high-end phones, including the iPhone. Although they will be made by HTC this year, the phones will carry Google’s own G branding. They will also be likely priced much higher compared to the Nexus phones with the price of the Pixel, which is likely to be cheaper, rumoured to be starting at $650 (around Rs 43,000).Also Read: Google Pixel, Pixel XL will be splash-proof, but don’t try to wash themlast_img
